Dr. Peters is the Division Director of Pediatric Urology at Children's Health℠ and a Professor of Urology at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
Dr. Peters earned his medical degree from John Hopkins University. He completed his surgery and urology residency at the Brady Urological Institute at Johns Hopkins, and did fellowship training at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
His clinical interests include all areas of pediatric urology with an emphasis on reconstruction, obstruction, urinary tract infections, fetal urology and minimally invasive surgery. His research interests include fetal bladder and kidney development, urinary tract infection and surgical device development.
Dr. Peters has extensive experience developing minimally invasive surgical techniques, including robot-assisted procedures and treatment of pediatric urologic problems. He led the development of our urologic robotic surgery program after joining Children’s Health in 2015.
Every physician on his team is certified in the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System, and the program has some of the country’s highest volumes for laparoscopic and robotic surgeries for pediatric urology conditions.
Dr. Peters has also authored numerous papers and chapters on minimally invasive surgery in children, and has lectured internationally on this topic.
He is on several editorial boards, is the pediatric editor of the Campbell-Walsh Textbook of Urology, and has published more than 185 original articles and over 100 book chapters. He chaired the most recent AUA Clincial Guidelines for Vesicoureteral Reflux. He has served on the National Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases Advisory Council and the Board of Directors of the American Urological Association.
He lives in Dallas with his wife of 35 years and enjoys cycling vacations with his family.
