Plenary II–Crossfire: Controversies in Urology
Shock Wave Lithotripsy Should Be Retired. Moderator, RV Clayman
Comment In recent years, the role of shock wave lithotripsy (SWL) in stone management has been the subject of increased discussion. With advances in ureteroscopic technology and technique, patients with proximal ureteral and renal stones, which historically have been treated with SWL, are now being approached in an endoscopic manner. Given this evolution, will there be a place for SWL in the future?
Dr. Clayman will moderate a panel discussion among experts in ureteroscopy and SWL. The discussion should provide the practicing urologist with an understanding of optimal treatment approaches for patients with upper-tract calculi, as well as a vision for what the coming years will look like in the field of stone management.
