Dr. Yan Xie currently leads the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology at the Clinical Epidemiology Center within the VA Saint Louis Health Care System. He has made significant contributions to COVID-19 research, and his work has been widely recognized and published in journals including Nature, Nature Medicine, the BMJ, the Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, among others.
His research during the pandemic received substantial attention from the academic community as well as the general public, with coverage in hundreds of global news outlets such as The New York Times, CNN, CBS, The Guardian, Bloomberg, and more. The relevance and impact of his work extended to government agencies and was supported by patient communities, leading to changes in patient care.

In addition to his work on COVID-19, Dr. Xie has extensive experience applying advanced statistical concepts and causal inference methods to conduct research based on electronic health records. He has conducted multiple studies in the areas of chronic kidney disease, diabetes mellitus, and cardiovascular disease. To date, Dr. Xie has published 55 papers in peer-reviewed journals, serving as the first author for 27 of these. His influential research has garnered over 8000 citations and has been featured in more than 6000 news stories.
