Xi Chen, DDS, PhD, is an Associate Professor at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. His clinical expertise include dental management for medically compromised older adults, dementia dental care, and end of life oral health care.   As a clinician-scientist, Dr. Chen’s research focuses on oral health management for older adults with dementia, end-of-life oral health care, and clinical decision-making for medically compromised elderly patients. With NIH support, Dr. Chen has completed a series of studies to explain the mechanism of oral health in persons with dementia and understand oral disease patterns in persons at the end of life. He is the secretary and treasurer of the Geriatric Oral Health Research Group in the International Association of Dental Research, the past chair of the J. Morita Geriatric Oral Research Awards Committee and an active member of the American Society for Geriatric Dentistry and the Gerontology Society of America. He also serves as a reviewer for a number of professional journals, including Journal of American Geriatric Society, Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology, Gerodontology, Special Care in Dentistry, Journal of Aging and Health, etc.
