Wilma Barcellini graduated in Medicine at University of Milan and is an Associate Professor in Blood Diseases, Oncology and Rheumatology. She is the Director of the Pathophysiology of Anemia Unit at IRCCS Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico Foundation and involved in the diagnosis and clinical care of patients with immuno-mediated cytopenias, and congenital and acquired rare anemias.

Dr. Barcellini is Principal investigator of numerous Research Projects funded by IRCCS Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico Foundation, Istituto Superiore di Sanità, and Ministry of Health and is a member of the European Network for Rare and Congenital Anaemias.  She has authored 232 publications in indexed journals (H Index 37).

In the 80s and 90s, Dr. Barcellini was the Visiting Scientist at the Laboratory of Immunology directed by prof. RH Zubler, Department of Medicine, University Hospital Geneva, Switzerland and at the Laboratory of Immunology directed by prof. A Dalgleish, Division of Oncology, St George's Hospital, University of London, UK.
