Steen, MD, is Professor of Medicine and Rheumatology Division Chair at Georgetown University Medical Center, Washington, DC. She co-established the University of Pittsburgh Scleroderma Database which has resulted in more than 200 publications many of which are seminal studies on risk factors and outcomes for kidney and lung involvement, auto-antibodies, pregnancy and survival in scleroderma Her most recent research interests have been focused on lung disease and scleroderma in African-Americans as well as clinical trials in scleroderma. She has received many awards, including the American College of Rheumatology Clinical Science Award in 1998, the American College of Rheumatology’s Investigative Mentoring Award for mentoring young investigators in scleroderma and pulmonary hypertension in 2012, and the Scleroderma Foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014. She is the Chair of the Medical and Scientific Advisory Board of the National Scleroderma Foundation.
