Orchard, M.B.B.Ch., M.Med.Sci (Community Med) is Professor of Epidemiology, Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health and Medical Director of its Nutrition Lipid Program. Dr. Orchard earned his medical degree at the Welsh National School of Medicine in Wales, England after which he undertook post-graduate studies in Community Medicine at the University of Nottingham. For over twenty years, Dr. Orchard has served as the Medical Director of the University of Pittsburgh’s Nutrition Lipid Program and has published over 300 papers and book chapters. His research has focused mainly on the epidemiology of diabetes, particularly Type 1 complications, and heart disease and the clinical management of lipid disorders. He has received a number of awards, including the ADA Kelly West Award for Outstanding Achievements in Epidemiology. He has also served on many NIH review panels, been a consultant for IOM, and a reviewer for many journals. He is a member of the following professional and scientific societies: Fellow of the Council on Epidemiology and Prevention, American Heart Association; International Society and Federation of Cardiology; Epidemiology Council, American Diabetes Association; Society for Epidemiologic Research; Fellow of the American College of Epidemiology (elected); American Epidemiological Society (elected).
