Toby C. Chai MD

Chai, MD, is Professor and Chair of Department of Urology at Boston University School of Medicine. He is also Chief of Urology at Boston Medical Center. Dr. Chai was previously on urology faculty at Yale University and University of Maryland where he held the John D. Young endowed professorship. He did his urology residency at University of Michigan Medical Center, followec by a research fellowship at University of Virginia. He received his MD from Indiana University School of Medicine and his BA from Johns Hopkins University.
Dr. Chai has been Principal Investigator of several NIH grants related to both basic and clinical research in functional bladder disorders. His research and service accomplishments have been recognized with national awards including the 2001 Society of Basic Urologic Research (SBUR) Young Investigator Award, the 2005 Society of Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine & Urogenital Reconstruction (SUFU) Zimskind Award, the 2013 American Urological Association (AUA) Victor A. Politano Award for outstanding work in treatment of urinary incontinence and innovations in bladder research, the 2015 SUFU Distinguished Service Award, and the 2022 AUA Distinguished Service Award for exemplary contributions to the science of urology and advocacy for urological research.
