Srinivas Ayilavarapu BDS, MDS, DSc
Associate Professor, Diplomate of American Board of Periodontology; Program Director, Advanced Periodontics, Department of Periodontics and Dental Hygiene, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, School of Dentistry, Houston, TexasDr. Ayilavarapu is an Associate Professor in Periodontics and Dental Hygiene and serves as the program director for advanced periodontics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, School of Dentistry (UTSOD).
Dr. Ayilavarapu completed his Bachelor’s in Dental Surgery (BDS) from India and then Master’s in Dental Surgery (MDS) in Periodontology from University of Mumbai. He then obtained a Doctorate in Oral Biology (DSc) and a certificate in advance graduate study in Periodontology from Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine.
Dr. Srinivas Ayilavarapu was an Assistant Professor at Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine and maintained part-time practice limited to periodontics and implant dentistry at Boston University Dental Health Center before joining The University of Texas at Houston School of Dentistry (UTSOD) in 2015. Dr. Ayilavarapu served as the undergraduate director in periodontics at UTSOD since 2017 and is currently an Associate Professor and the program director in Advanced Periodontics. He is board-certified by the American Board of Periodontology in Periodontology and Implant dentistry since 2011 and maintains part-time practice at UT Dentists and Sugar Land, TX. His clinical interests are periodontal regeneration and guided implant surgery.
Dr. Ayilavarapu is the recipient of The Nevins Teaching and Clinical Research Fellowship from American Academy of Periodontology Foundation in 2012 and 2018 Educator award in periodontics from America Academy of Periodontology. Dr.Ayilavarapu is a peer reviewer for various international journals including Journal of Periodontology, Journal of Evidence Based Dentistry and has published articles in basic and clinical research in high-impact journals and contributed to book chapters. Dr. Ayilavarapu’s research interests include clinical trials, education research and diabetes-modulated inflammation affecting neutrophils and bone. Dr. Ayilavarapu directs several courses residents in periodontics and mentors residents towards their research requirements.
Dr. Ayilavarapu actively serves on various UTSOD committees and participates in national committees like Volpe award committee of the AAP foundation and Special Interest Group on implant dentistry at ADEA.
