Sompop Bencharit DDS, MS, PhD, FACP

Dr. Sompop Bencharit is Assistant Dean for Innovation and Professor in the Department of Oral Rehabilitation, College of Dental Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina.

Dr. Bencharit's research interests include dental implants and tissue engineering, salivary biomarkers, as well as applications of digital technologies in dentistry such as CAD/CAM, 3D printing, and artificial intelligence. In addition to clinical expertise in prosthodontics and implantology, Dr. Bencharit has PhD training in protein structural biology. He has published over 90 peer-reviewed papers and is on the editorial board of several journals. He is a member of the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP), the American Dental Association, and the American Dental Education Association, among other professional organizations. He was recently awarded the 2021 ACP Distinguish Researcher. He is a Fellow of the ACP, the International College of Dentists, and the Pierre Fauchard Academy.

Dr. Bencharit received his DDS from Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. He was awarded his MS in prosthodontics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry, where he subsequently received his PhD in oral biology and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in structural biology.
