
Shyam Prabhakaran MD
I received my Medical Degree from UMDNJ (now Rutgers University Biomedical and Health Sciences) and completed by neurology and vascular neurology training at New York Presbyterian Hospital. I also received a Masters in Epidemiology from the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. I am currently Associate Professor of Neurology and Director of Stroke Research at Northwestern University. I serve on the Illinois State Stroke Emergency Medical Services Advisory Board and on several national quality groups such as the Get With The Guidelines Steering Committee and Target Stroke Steering Committee. I am also the Principal Investigator for several federally funded initiatives in stroke care including MYRIAD, a study of imaging in intracranial stenosis; CEERIAS, a study of barriers and community intervention for early 9-1-1 use after stroke; and the Chicago Regional Coordinating Center for the NIH-fuinded StrokeNet initiative, a network of centers focused on rapid completion of innovative stroke treatment trials.
