Professor and Director, Division and Fellowship in Complex Family Planning, Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences, University of California, San Diego, San Diego, CaliforniaSheila Mody, MD, MPH, is a Professor and the Director of the Division and Fellowship in Complex Family Planning in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of California, San Diego. Prior to joining UCSD faculty as a Women’s Reproductive Health Research (WRHR, K12) scholar in 2011, she did her OBGYN residency at Beth Israel Deaconess in Boston and did a Complex Family Planning Fellowship at Northwestern University in Chicago.
In 2017 she founded the Fellowship and Division of Complex Family Planning at UCSD. Dr. Mody’s has many research interests including contraception counseling for women taking teratogen or who have complex medical conditions including breast cancer, solid organ transplants, epilepsy or Cystic Fibrosis. She was also the principal investigator on several studies on pain control for IUD placements. Most notably she did a randomized control study that showed that a 20cc 1% lidocaine paracervical block decreased pain with IUD placement among nulliparous individuals.
