Dr. Barootchi is an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan, Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine. He joined the Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine at the University of Michigan in August 2017 as a post-doctoral research fellow until July 2019 at which point started the Periodontal residency program, leading to a Certificate and Master's Degree in Periodontology.

Dr. Barootchi has conducted numerous research projects in the field of periodontal and peri-implant plastic surgery, root coverage procedures and hard and soft tissue regeneration, ranging from human randomized clinical trials, cross-sectional studies, small and large animal models, in-vitro, and other translational research, many of which have been published in well-known peer-reviewed international journals. His work in this field has led to more than 80 peer-reviewed scientific articles and his research and publications have been the recipients of numerous national and international prestigious awards.

He also serves as the associate editor for the Journal of Clinical implant Dentistry and related Research, as well as on the editorial board and as an ad-hoc reviewer for many other internally renowned journals in Dentistry and Periodontology, such as the Journal of Periodontology, Journal of Clinical Periodontology, and the International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry. His current research focuses on periodontal and peri-implant hard and soft tissue regeneration as well as contemporary methods for the treatment of peri-implantitis.
