Professor of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology, University of California San Diego; Staff Physician, Jennifer Moreno Department of Veterans Affairs San Diego Healthcare System, San Diego, CaliforniaDr. Gupta is a Professor of Medicine at the University of California San Diego, and Staff Physician at the Jennifer Moreno Department of Veterans Affairs San Diego Healthcare System. His research focuses on the screening and prevention of colorectal cancer. This work has included multiple randomized trials of strategies to boost colorectal cancer screening participation in underserved communities, as well as large scale epidemiologic studies of strategies to prevent cancer after baseline colonoscopy with polypectomy, funded by the National Cancer Institute, Department of Veterans Affairs, and others. He serves as chair of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network’s annually issued Genetic/Familial High-Risk Assessment: Colorectal guidelines, and led the 2020 US Multisociety Task Force on Colorectal Cancer recommendations for follow up after colonoscopy and polypectomy. Dr. Gupta is an active teacher and mentor, and his medical practice includes performing routine GI procedures, and evaluation and management of individuals at increased risk for GI cancer based on family history and genetic diagnoses.
