Rodrigo Alonso MD, PhD
Co-Director, Center for Advanced Metabolic Medicine and Nutrition; Assistant Professor, Faculty of Medicine, University Finnis Terrae, Santiago, ChileRodrigo Alonso, MD, PhD, achieved Specialist in Internal Medicine from Universidad de Valparaiso, Chile. He received his PhD in Medicine and Magister in Clinical Nutrition from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain.
He is Co-Director Center for Advanced Metabolic Medicine and Nutrition in Santiago de Chile, where he carries out his clinical work. Since 2016, Dr Alonso is President of the Chilean Atherosclerosis Working Group Corporation.
From 1997 until June 2014, Dr Alonso worked at the Lipid Clinic, Internal Medicine Department at Fundación Jiménez Díaz, Madrid, Spain.
From 2014 to February 2020, Dr Alonso worked as staff in the Department of Nutrition at Clínica Las Condes, Santiago de Chile. He was Head of the Department from 2016 to January 2020. During this period, he was the coordinator of the local registry for patients with Familial Hypercholesterolemia.
Dr Alonso was a Co-founder of the Spanish Familial Hypercholesterolemia Foundation, and currently he is member of the Scientific Committee. Until 2014, he coordinated the Spanish Follow-up Study of Families with Familial Hypercholesterolemia (SAFEHEART). He is the National Leader for the European Atherosclerosis Society FH Study Collaboration.
Dr. Alonso is Member at large of the International Atherosclerosis Society Board and member of the board and Treasurer of the Association of the Iberoamerican Familial Hypercholesterolemia Network. Recently elected as Chair for the Federation of the Americas, International Atherosclerosis Society.
Since 2020, Dr. Alonso has been Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Finis Terrae University, Santiago de Chile.
