Assistant Professor of Clinical Family Practice and lecturer in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Arizona Medical School, Tucson, AZDr. Robert Rhode is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Family Practice and lecturer in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Arizona Medical School. He has been learning and teaching motivational interviewing since 1986. Years later he was in the first (1993) “Training of Trainers for Motivational Interviewing and Brief Interventions” offered by University of New Mexico and facilitated by Dr. William Miller and Dr. Steve Rollnick.
He has conducted motivational interviewing trainings for groups as small as three and as large as 750, from Americus Georgia to Bethel Alaska, from Nogales, Mexico to Burlington, Vermont for physicians, dentists, counselors, nurses, social workers, psychologists, and students. He did his graduate work at Ohio University and then moved to Tucson for his internship and postdoc at the University of AZ Health Sciences Center but he really came to the warm southwest just to swim. Now he and his wife get there faster on a tandem bike.
