Vice-Chairman and Consultant Diabetologist, Department of Diabetology, Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre & Madras Diabetes Research Foundation, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, IndiaDr. Ranjit Unnikrishnan is currently the Vice-chairman and Consultant Diabetologist at Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre, Chennai.
After completion of his MBBS and MD in General Medicine from the University of Calicut, Dr. Ranjit has been working in the present institution since 2004. He has also obtained the Postgraduate Diploma in Diabetes from Cardiff University, Wales, UK.
In addition to clinical work, he also handles the educational activities of the centre, under the auspices of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) Centre of Education. He is the Regional Faculty for Certificate Course in Evidence based Diabetes Management (CCEBDM), Certificate Course in Gestational Diabetes mellitus (CCGDM) and Certificate Course in Diabetic Retinopathy (CCDR).
He has more than 220 publications in leading international and national journals and chapters in textbooks to his credit. He has also been an invited speaker at various national and international fora including the World Congress of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), the Association of Physicians of India (API), the Research Society for Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI), the Diabetic Foot Society of India (DFSI) and the Diabetes in Asia Study Group (DASG).
He has presented posters at the Annual Sessions of the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and the World Congress of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), Conferred Fellow of Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) [Glasgow, Edinburgh & London], Fellowship of the American College of Physicians (FACP), Fellowship from Indian College of Physicians (FICP), Fellowship from American College of Endocrinology (FACE) and Speciality Certification in Endocrinology and Diabetes, Royal Colleges of Physicians and Society for Endocrinology (UK).
He has been awarded the “Best Doctor Award” by the Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University for his exemplary services in the field of Diabetology in the year 2012 and Dr. Coelho Memorial Lectureship in Experimental 2015 Medicine Award by the Association of Physicians of India at APICON 2015.
Dr. Ranjit is a member of several professional bodies including the API, RSSDI, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE).
