Raj Chovatiya MD, PhD, MSCI

Dr. Chovatiya received his MD and PhD from Yale University. He completed his graduate work in the Department of Immunobiology, where he studied physiologic mechanisms of inflammation. He completed internal medicine internship at Yale, followed by dermatology residency at Northwestern University. In his last year of residency training, while serving as Chief Resident, Dr. Chovatiya was a NRSA T32 postdoctoral fellow and pursued additional translational research training to better characterize the health burden and comorbid health conditions associated with chronic inflammatory skin disease and itch.
Dr. Chovatiya’s area of clinical focus in dermatology is chronic inflammatory skin disease, with a particular focus on atopic dermatitis but also psoriasis, hidradenitis, and other chronic inflammatory conditions. He also has a special interest in chronic itch, both inflammatory and neurogenic. Dr. Chovatiya’s research interests include patient-reported outcomes, health services research, epidemiology, implementation science, and development of novel therapeutics.
Dr. Chovatiya has presented his research at national and international conferences and published manuscripts and abstracts in a variety of peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Journal of Investigative Dermatology, British Journal of Dermatology, Dermatitis, Annals of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, PLOS One, and Molecular Cell. Dr. Chovatiya has been recognized with a number of honors including the Everett C. Fox, MD Award from the American Academy of Dermatology, the Imrich Sarkany Memorial Award from the European Academy of Dermatology and Venerology, the Rising Derm Stars Award from the Foundation for Education and Research in Dermatology, the Resident of Distinction Award from Beiersdorf Inc., and the Goldberg Family Charitable Trust Award from the Northwestern Memorial Foundation.
