Peter T. Scardino is recognized internationally as an expert in the early detection and surgical treatment of prostate cancer. His research is focused on the early detection, natural history, and treatment of clinically localized prostate cancer, and his group has pioneered the application of nomograms in oncology. Dr. Scardino is currently Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, the inaugural incumbent of the David H. Koch Chair, and Head of the Prostate Cancer Program. He is also a Professor of Urology at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University and at SUNY Downstate Medical School.

Dr. Scardino is the author of nearly 600 publications on prostate cancer, including a book for the public, Dr. Peter Scardino’s Prostate Book, and he served as an editor for four editions of the Comprehensive Textbook of Genitourinary Oncology. He was the founding Editor-in-Chief of Nature Reviews Urology and now serves on its editorial board, and he is Associate Editor of the Annual Review of Medicine. Dr. Scardino has served as Chair of the NCCN Guidelines Committee on the Treatment of Prostate Cancer and as Co-chair of the National Cancer Institute Progress Review Group on Prostate Cancer.
