Paul J. Thuluvath, MD, is the Medical Director of the Institute for Digestive Health & Liver Disease and the Chief of Gastroenterology at the Mercy Medical Center, Baltimore. He is a Clinical Professor of Medicine and the Director of the University of Maryland Advanced Hepatology Network at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore. Dr. Thuluvath has held various senior leadership positions, including Medical Director of Liver Transplantation and the Chief of Hepatology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine before his current position.

Dr. Thuluvath received his medical degree from the St. Johns Academy of Medical Sciences, Bangalore, India, and his doctorate from the University of Sheffield School of Medicine, England. He completed fellowship in Gastroenterology at the Cambridge University. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London, and the American Association for Study of Liver Diseases.

Dr. Thuluvath has published more than 300 peer reviewed papers and book chapters; edited seven textbooks in the field of gastroenterology and liver diseases including 2 books, published by Johns Hopkins Press, for patients with liver disease. Dr. Thuluvath has a specialized interest in liver transplantation and has a research interest in liver transplant outcomes.
