His interests include teleophthalmology, anti-angiogenic therapeutic modalities for diabetic retinal disease, wide-field retinal imaging to identify novel retinal lesions and the development of decision-support algorithms through clinical outcome analysis. Dr. Silva actively directs the efforts of the Joslin Vision Network which is a teleophthalmology program for diabetic retinal disease with the ultimate goal of delivering the highest quality of diabetes eye care and promoting collaborative research that is free from disparities induced by geographic, political, or cultural boundaries.
