Prof. Ole Haagen Nielsen graduated from The Medical School, University of Copenhagen and became specialist of internal medicine: October 1992 and specialist of gastroenterology April 1993. He has been involved in basic research in the area of inflammation as well as clinical research with focus on chronic inflammatory diseases (especially inflammatory bowel disease). From September 2001 to August 2007 he served as Scientific Editor at Journal of the Danish Medical Association (“Ugeskrift for Læger”) and since 2000 member of the editorial advisory board, Inflammation Research, Basel; since 2011 Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology, and since 2019 eLife (section of Medicine). He has served as Board Member of the Danish Committees on Scientific Dishonesty February 2004 to January 2016 and became Editor of the 2009 version of “Guidelines on Good Scientific Practice” (to be downloaded as a PDF via the webpage of the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science). Currently, he is member of the European Commission Expert Panel at Joint Research Centre (JRC), to provide scientific opinions on applications in the field of gastroenterology as well as Expert Consultant in Medical Gastroenterology at the Danish Medico-Legal Council (“Retslægerådet”) and Expert Advisor in “internal medicine” at the Danish Health Authority. He has been member of the Danish Council for Independent Research – Medical Sciences 2009-2011; The Research Council of Norway, Panel of Medicine (FRIMEDBIO) 2011-2013 and again 2017-2018, The Swedish Research Council (“Vetenskapsrådet”) 2014-2016, and ad hoc evaluator for the European Research Council, Brussels; Horizon 2020; Science Foundation Ireland; the German Research Council (DFG), and the French National Research Agency (ANR).
