Nils Mungan MD, FRCSC
Professor, Ophthalmology and Pediatrics, University of Mississippi in Jackson, MississippiNils Mungan, MD, FRCSC, Professor, is a pediatric ophthalmologist who was raised in Calgary, Canada, and attended medical school at the University of Ottawa, followed by residency in ophthalmology in New Orleans. After completing his fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at the Hospital for Sick Children at the University of Toronto, Dr. Mungan began his practice at the University of Mississippi in 1999. During his career at UMMC, Dr. Mungan has trained over 85 residents and received many awards, including the AAPOS Honor Award from the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus. Dr. Mungan has written a textbook chapter on esotropia (crossed eyes), has authored or co-authored numerous medical journal articles, and is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus. He has also served on multiple national and international committees for pediatric ophthalmology and has been an organizer of several international symposia. Dr. Mungan has four adult children, and in his spare time enjoys marathon racing (Boston qualified), skiing, canyoneering, caving, and backpacking.
