Medical Director of Encino, PRISM and Deseo clinicsDr. McClain received her Medical and Public Health training at Oregon Health Sciences University, and completed her residency in the Department of Family and Community Medicine (DFCM) at the University of New Mexico (UNM). She is currently an Assistant Professor at University of New Mexico and is the medical director of three clinics. Two of the clinics are exclusively in support of providing affirming care to gender expansive adults and youth, and the third is an “inclusion clinic” housed at the Transgender Resource Center of New Mexico where people experiencing homelessness, people engaged in street based sex work, people interested in access to safer needles, and gender expansive people are all welcomed. In addition to expanding access to health care for populations traditionally excluded from medical care, the clinics are used to train residents and medical students. She works with the UNM Rural and Urban Underserved program for medical students which aims to sustain medical student interest in underserved medicine. Dr. McClain is the co-director of the DFCM residency wellness program, and is core faculty for the Family Medicine Inpatient service.
