Michael S. Conte, MD, is Professor and Chief of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Medical Center, and holds the E.J Wylie Chair in Vascular Surgery. He serves as Co-Director of the UCSF Heart and Vascular Center. Dr. Conte attended medical school at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed surgical residency at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center. He completed a vascular surgery fellowship at Brigham and Womens’ Hospital (BWH)/Harvard Medical School in Boston. He served on the faculty of Yale School of Medicine for 3 years, then at Brigham and Women’s/Harvard Medical School for 11 years before joining UCSF in his current role in 2008.

Dr. Conte’s clinical practice include diseases of the aorta, carotid artery, and peripheral artery disease (PAD). His research has spanned basic mechanisms of intimal hyperplasia to large scale clinical trials. Dr. Conte has authored >250 peer-reviewed publications across the spectrum of vascular disease and has led in the development of national and international clinical practice guidelines for PAD. Dr. Conte is the immediate past president of the Western Vascular Society and a past Chair of the American Heart Association Council on Peripheral Vascular Diseases. He also serves as Chief Medical Officer of the non-profit foundation Vascular Cures (Redwood City, CA).
