Research Scientist, Center for Interdisciplinary Cardiovascular Sciences, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, Department of Medicine, Brigham and Women’s Hospital; Research Associate, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MassachusettsDr. Mark Blaser is a Research Scientist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and a Research Associate at Harvard Medical School. He obtained his Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical Engineering – Minor in Biomedical Engineering, 2009) from McGill University. He completed his PhD (Biomedical Engineering, 2016) at the University of Toronto in the laboratory of Professor Craig Simmons, where he was a CIHR Frederick Banting and Charles Best Canada Graduate Scholar. During his PhD, he also spent time as a CIHR Michael Smith Visiting Scholar at the University of California - Irvine with Professor Arash Kheradvar. In 2017, Dr. Blaser joined Professor Elena Aikawa’s research group at Brigham and Women’s Hospital as a postdoctoral fellow. There, his work has focused on the application of multi-omics and systems biology approaches to study extracellular vesicle-driven cardiovascular calcification, congenital calcific aortic valve disease, and how bioengineered model systems recapitulate unique aspects of human disease.
