Dr. Mariam Alatrach is a Clinical Research Scientist at Texas Diabetes Institute, Division of Diabetes at the University of Texas Health San Antonio (UTHSA).

After receiving her Doctor of Medicine diploma from Damascus University, Faculty of Medicine in Damascus, Syria, Dr. Alatrach completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Diabetes and Metabolism Research at UTHSA under the mentorship of Dr. Ralph DeFronzo where she became in depth-knowledgeable of research operations and proficient in clinical research experiments using innovative equipment and sophisticated techniques.  In turn, she completed her Master of Science degree in Clinical Investigation and Translational Science from UT Health San Antonio. Recently she earned a Certification in Diabetes Care and Education.  Her areas of interest include pathophysiology of diabetes and prediabetes, mechanisms of action of novel antidiabetic drugs, and diabetes education. She is an American Diabetes Association member and has multiple publications in the field.
