
Kent L. Knoernschild DMD, MS, FACP

Knoernschild, D.M.D., M.S., F.A.C.P. is Thomas P. Hinman Endowed Chair and Professor, Department of Restorative Sciences at the Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University. He holds a private practice limited to prosthodontics. Dr. Knoernschild is Past President and Chief Professional Officer for the American Board of Prosthodontics. He served on the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) (2009-2013) and was the first prosthodontist CODA Chair. Dr. Knoernschild has actively served the American College of Prosthodontists in numerous chair, committee and task force roles. He is a Councilor for the Academy of Prosthodontics, and is also active with the American Dental Association, and the Academy of Osseointegration. He served as President for the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics and the IADR/AADR Prosthodontics Research Group.
Dr. Knoernschild is recipient of several awards including the ACP Educator of the Year (2011) and the ACP Distinguished Lecturer (2013). As an advanced prosthodontics program director, in clinical and academic settings, he successfully promoted a philosophy of seamless integration of advanced technologies and digital dentistry, including surgical aspects of patient care, especially with dental implants. The advanced education students he has mentored received more than 25 nationally or internationally recognized awards. Dr. Knoernschild has lectured internationally on comprehensive therapy for patients based on best evidence. He has given over 120 invited presentations, authored over 60 publications, 1 book chapter, and received more than 25 research grants supporting clinical and laboratory research. As the profession advanced, Dr. Knoernschild had a unique opportunity to observe, participate, and contribute to the evolving philosophies for best patient care.
