Katsutoshi Shoda, MD, PhD, graduated from Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine, Kyoto, Japan. He is specialized in gastrointestinal surgery and is currently an assistant professor in the First Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, University of Yamanashi, Yamanashi, Japan. Additionally, he serves as a researcher at the Department of Molecular Diagnostics and Experimental Therapeutics at the Beckman Research Institute, City of Hope, Duarte, CA.

Dr. Shoda has dedicated his research career to the study of cancer since the beginning of his medical journey and has made significant contributions to the field. His research mainly focused on the biomarkers relevant to treatment using liquid biopsies in upper gastrointestinal cancer. He has been the lead author or contributor to over 100 scientific articles published in peer-reviewed international journals. His research activities are highly regarded nationally and internationally, including prestigious honors.

His research philosophy is "Bedside-to-Bench-to-Bedside.” Based on his experience treating many gastrointestinal cancer patients, he always considers what is needed in today's clinical settings and pursues new possibilities for clinical applications.
