Dr. Karen Edison is the Philip C. Anderson Professor and Chairwoman of the Department of Dermatology, Medical Director of the Missouri Telehealth Network, and Director of the Center for Health Policy (CHP) at the University of Missouri School of Medicine in Columbia. She served as Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellow and then majority health policy staff for the Health Education Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee in the United States Senate from 1999-2001, where she was instrumental in the legislative expansion of Medicare reimbursement for telemedicine services. She is a tireless advocate for patient-centered health care and has cared for rural, underserved dermatology patients using telemedicine throughout Missouri since 1995.
As Director of the Center for Health Policy, Dr. Edison has helped to lead work with the State of Missouri on health insurance access, telemedicine policy, and Medicaid data analysis, and has led efforts funded by the Missouri Foundation for Health and the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City to improve health equity and foster health literacy for all Missourians. She also serves on the Executive Committee of the Board for the Missouri Health Connection and as Medical Director for the Show-Me ECHO program in Missouri.
