Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine and the Vitreoretinal Service of the Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute, Cleveland, OHJustis P. Ehlers, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine and the vitreoretinal service of the Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute. He earned his medical degree at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the Wills Eye Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he served as Chief Resident. He then held a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the Duke Eye Center in Durham, North Carolina as a Heed Fellow and Ronald G. Michels Fellow.
Dr. Ehlers specializes in the diagnosis and management of medical and surgical vitreoretinal diseases. His laboratory focuses on translational intraoperative optical coherence tomography (OCT) technology as well as advanced image analysis. His lab has a a particular focus on microscope integration, OCT-compatible surgical instruments, pathology-specific software algorithms intraoperative applications, and automated image pattern analysis. Dr. Ehlers has participated as principal investigator on various clinical studies. He has authored numerous publications and serves as an Associate Editor for the British Journal of Ophthalmology.
In addition, Dr. Ehlers is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology Knowledge Base Retina Subspecialty committee and Ophthalmic Technology Assessment committees. He also holds memberships in several professional societies, including the Macula Society, Retina Society, and American Society of Retina Specialists.
