Dr. Kimura received a Bachelor of Technology degree in 1957 and MD in 1961 both from Kyoto University in Japan. He moved to the United States as a Fulbright scholar in 1962 for residency training in neurology and fellowship in electrophysiology at the University of Iowa. He served as President of American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM) in 1985, Editor in Chief of Muscle & Nerve 1988-1997, President of the International Federation of Clinical Neurophysiology (IFCN) 1990-1993, Director of Japanese Society of Clinical Neurophysiology (JSCN) 1992-2001 and President of the World Federation of Neurology (WFN) 2002-2005.  His book “Electrodiagnosis in Diseases of Nerve and Muscle” has appeared in four editions. He received a 1995 Distinguished Research Award and 1999 Lifetime Achievement Award from AANEM, the distinction of Honorary Fellow from IFCN in 2001, Lifetime Achievement Award from WFN International Congress of Neuromuscular Diseases in 2006 and a Medal of Honor for Service to International Neurology from WFN in 2017.  In 2018, the AANEM established a new “the Jun Kimura Outstanding Educator Award” in his honor. His current professional titles include Professor Emeritus, Kyoto University in Japan and University of Iowa in the USA.
