John M Kirkwood MD
Usher Professor of Medicine, Dermatology and Translational Science; Co-Director, Melanoma and Skin Cancer Program University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, Pittsburgh, PennsylvaniaDr. Kirkwood received his MD in 1973 from Yale University and completed postgraduate work at Yale-New Haven Hospital, and Harvard University/Dana-Farber Cancer Center in 1978. He formed the Yale Melanoma Unit and led this until 1986 when he became founding Associate Director for Medical Oncology of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute and there served as Chief of Medical Oncology until 1996. He has also served as Director of the Melanoma Center of the UPCI 1986-present, and the PI of the recently renewed Pittsburgh SPORE in Melanoma and Skin Cancer. He has been Professor of Medicine, Dermatology, and Translational Science at the University of Pittsburgh, and the Senior Investigator for the University in ECOG-ACRIN, where he is Chairman of the Melanoma Committee 1989-present. He is also the Chairman of the International Melanoma Working Group founded with the Aim at Melanoma in 2006.He has recently received a T32 Training Grant for Melanoma and Skin Cancer, and his research focuses upon the immunotherapy and molecular therapy of melanoma and its precursors.
