The results of his research have been published in more than 60 articles in international scientific journals indexed in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR), more than 40 of them corresponding to the first quartile (Q1), and more than 10 corresponding to the second quartile (Q2), books, book chapters and communications in specialized conferences.
He is/has been the organizer of several congresses, conferences, courses.
He directs the interdisciplinary group Quality of Life in Diversity and Occupational Therapy (CAVIDITO)
He has been the main researcher and collaborator of research projects with both public and private funding, national and European, and has directed more than 20 doctoral theses, most of them related to disability, or teaching.
Professor González-Bernal is a speaker at courses, conferences, congresses; he is creator of the Advanced Autonomy Laboratory of the University of Burgos; and he has patented an electronic system to aid in the detection of cerebral stroke.
Professor González-Bernal was Director of the Department of Educational Sciences from 2012-2015. Since November 27, 2014, he has been a professor in the Department of Health Sciences. He has been Director of the Department of Health Sciences since 2016.
He is Manager of the Spin-Off Ortofisio San Amaro.
