James Wilkes

James Wilkes PhD, MEd, ATC

Postdoctoral Scholar, Department of Kinesiology, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Pennsylvania

Dr. Wilkes received his BS in Kinesiology with a focus in Athletic Training in 2013 from Penn State University. He then took a Graduate position with the Penn State Men’s Rugby team for two years while completing his MEd at Penn State University in 2017. Dr. Wilkes spent the last several years studying the influence of sleep on the accumulation of subconcussive impacts and resultant functional outcomes, among several other projects. He currently serves as the Postdoctoral Scholar for the Penn State Center for Concussion Research and Service. Dr. Wilkes is also a Certified Athletic Trainer that assists with Penn State athletics medical coverage and further strengthens the relationship between the concussion center and Penn State Athletics. He has research interests in subconcussive impact accumulation, biomarker and MRI indicators of injury and dysfunction, and sleep and concussion.
