Harry W. Flynn, Jr MD
Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology, Department of Ophthalmology, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Naples, FloridaHarry W. Flynn Jr., MD, is the J. Donald M. Gass Distinguished Chair in Ophthalmology at UHealth-University of Miami Health System. He is Professor of Ophthalmology at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and specializes in medical and surgical treatment of diseases of the retina and vitreous. Dr. Flynn completed two years of active duty in the US Army at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.
Dr. Flynn has been author or co-author of 697 peer-reviewed publications as well as 133 book chapters. He has edited or co-edited 8 books. Dr. Flynn had held numerous leadership positions including President: The Vitreous Society (now ASRS) (1992-1993), President: The Miami Ophthalmological Society (1999) and President. Dr. Flynn served as Senior Editor for Section 12 (Retina) of the Basic and Clinical Science Course for the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO). He serves on the Editorial Board of numerous journals including the American Journal of Ophthalmology, RETINA, OSLI: RETINA and others. He serves on the Data and Safety Monitoring Committees including DRCR Network, SCORE Study. He has delivered 39 named lectures including the “J. Donald M. Gass Lecture” at the Retina Society in 2012. Most recently, he was the keynote speaker at the 2018 Ophthalmology Times Research Scholar Symposium. He had the honor of giving the “Endophthalmitis Update” for Moorfields Symposium, for the United Arab Emirates, 2023. In 2018, 2022 and 2023 he was honored to be among “The Top 100 Most Influential People in the World of Ophthalmology” by the publication “The Ophthalmologist”.
