
Gwenny Fuhler PhD
Associate Professor and Section Head, Experimental Gastroenterology, Erasmus University Medical Center Rotterdam, The NetherlandsAfter studying Medical Biology, Gwenny Fuhler obtained her PhD from the University of Groningen, The Netherlands, for studies on neutrophil functions in haematological malignancies, and she continued her interest in cancer signalling during her post-doctoral studies. International activities during these years include her master research at Harvard, Boston (MA), EMBO sponsored studies at Addenbrooke’s and Papworth hospital, Cambridge UK, postdoctoral studies at the Lee Moffitt Cancer institute, Tampa (FL), and SUNY Upstate Medical University, Syracuse (NY).
Dr. Fuhler is currently associate professor at the department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology of the Erasmus University Medical Center Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Her current interests center around the host-microbial actions contributing to human gastrointestinal diseases and include the role of Helicobacter pylori infection during gastric metaplasia, the potential use of microbial signatures in the detection of colorectal cancer, and modulation of the microbiome in inflammatory bowel disease as influenced by diet and pregnancy.
