Gustavo Avila-Ortiz DDS, MS, PhD

Lainson Professor and Chair, Department of Periodontics, University of Iowa College of Dentistry, Iowa City, IowaDr. Gustavo Avila-Ortiz is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Periodontics at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. He is the former director of the Advanced Education Program and the Visiting Scholar Program in Periodontics at the University of Iowa. Dr. Avila-Ortiz completed his DDS and PhD training programs at the University of Granada, Spain, before moving to Ann Arbor (USA) where he attained a MS degree and a Certificate in Periodontics from the University of Michigan. He is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. Aside from being engaged in scholarly, teaching and administrative ctivities, he maintains a faculty practice limited to Periodontics and Oral Implantology in Iowa City (USA). Dr. Avila-Ortiz’s research spans a number of clinical topics related to periodontal and implant therapy.
