Dr. Silverman is a Professor of Medicine and Pathology, and the The Mamdouha S. Bobst Professor of Internal Medicine at the NYU School of Medicine. Dr. Silverman received his undergraduate degree from Brandeis University, then attended Rutgers Medical School where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at UC San Diego, and then a fellowship in Rheumatology at Scripps Clinic. Since 1992 has led an annual course on phage display and antibody engineering at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories. He has been elected to American Society for Clinical Investigation and the Henry Kunkel Society, and his lab has been NIH-supported for over 30 years. He has published over 160 scientific papers on topics that include the structural and immunobiology properties of B cell superantigens, and the molecular and cellular mechanisms responsible for autoimmune disease. He teaches locally and nationally rheumatology and immunology to graduate students, medical students, physicians-in-training and at a postgraduate level.
