Giovanni Targher, MD, is an Associate Professor of Endocrinology and Diabetes at University of Verona Medical School and Senior Consultant of Endocrinology at the Diabetes and Endocrinology Division, Hospital Trust, Verona, Italy. He is also coordinator of the PhD program in “Clinical and Experimental Medical Sciences” of the University of Verona Medical School.

He received several awards or prizes from the Italian Society of Diabetology, the Italian Society of Endocrinology and the Italian Society for the Study of Atherosclerosis. He is serving as a Co-editor of Nutrition Metabolism and Cardiovascular Diseases (NMCD), Associate Editor of Diabetes & Metabolism, Associate Editor of Diabetic Medicine, Associate Editor of Seminars in Thrombosis and Hemostasis, and Editorial board member of several reputed scientific journals.

His major research interest for >20 years has been the causes and prevention of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and cardiovascular disease in people with diabetes using clinical epidemiology and health services translational approaches. In 2022, it had been included by Clarivate in the international list of “Highly Cited Researchers”.

He has currently authored about 600 peer-reviewed original articles and reviews. His articles have been cited more than 35,000 times with an h-index of 92 on Scopus.
