Gary C Brown MD, MBA
Professor of Ophthalmology at Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, PAGary C. Brown, MD, MBA graduated from Colgate University and received his MD degree from the SUNY Upstate Medical Center He completed his ophthalmology residency and vitreoretinal fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital.
Dr. Brown is Professor of Ophthalmology at Jefferson Medical College. He was Director of the Wills Retina Vascular Unit from 1990-2002 and Chief of the Retina Service from 2003-2012. He is currently Chief Medical Officer at the Center for Value-Based Medicine®, a healthcare economic research organization. He has authored or co-authored 12 textbooks and 700 scientific writings. An investigator for multiple NIH clinical trials, Dr. Brown is a reviewer for 40 peer-reviewed journals. He was a founder and Co-chief Editor of Evidence-Based Ophthalmology, Lippincott Williams and Wilkins’ launch into evidence-based medicine and cost-effectiveness.
Dr. Brown’s academic honors include Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha Omega Alpha, the Robert Shoemaker and Paul Craig Awards, the American Academy of Ophthalmology Honor, Senior Honor and Lifetime Achievement Awards, and the Arnall Patz Medal. He has been named in Who’s Who in Medicine, Who’s Who Among Outstanding Business Executives, 1,000 Outstanding Minds of the 21st Century, and Who’s Who in the World. His peers have voted him as a Philadelphia Top Doc and one of America’s Best Doctors annually since 1996.
