He is a clinician-scientist and practicing intensivist at Toronto General Hospital. His research program focuses on mechanisms and outcomes of lung and diaphragm injury during mechanical ventilation in the clinical setting, and he is studying a range of interventions designed to prevent ventilator-induced lung and diaphragm injury in patients with acute respiratory failure. He is also leading the development of the multinational PRACTICAL adaptive platform trial in acute hypoxemic respiratory failure.
