Dr. Estephan Moana-Filho is faculty of the Division of TMD and Orofacial Pain at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry (UMN SOD) since August 2014, where he currently is a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor.

He obtained his dental degree from the Bauru School of Dentistry, University of Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1997. He has been involved in TMD and Orofacial Pain since 2002, and obtained specialist status in this field in Brazil in 2003. He then successfully completed a 2-year clinical residency and obtained a Master of Science degree from the UMN in 2008 and 2009, respectively. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Orofacial Pain.

Dr. Moana-Filho has published several peer-reviewed articles, and has presented his research in several national and international scientific meetings.


Dr. Moana-Filho has received research funding from competitive UMN internal mechanisms such as Grant-in-Aid. He is currently funded by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research institute at NIH (grant #R00 DE027414).
