During her more than 40 years as a board-certified dermatologist in clinical practice, Dr. McBurney has served the profession through her numerous leadership roles in professional organizations. She was an early pioneer in the laser-based dermatologic surgery and the study of mycosis fungoides. A clinical profession with nearly 40 years’ experience at Louisiana’s two medical schools, she has more than 200 professional presentations and 39 peer-reviewed publications.

In 2012, she left full-time practice at Skin Care Specialist, a clinic she founded, and continues to devote her time to part-time clinical practice in Lafayette, LA, teaching medical students, mentoring young physicians, presenting invited speaking engagements, and doing professional service. Her commitment to public service and education about skin health can be seen in her history of more than 75 community presentations, annual skin cancer screenings, and numerous appearances in local and national media outlets.
