David B. Joseph, MD, earned his undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University and graduated cum laude/Phi Beta Kappa. Medical School, the University of Wisconsin–Madison 1980. His residency was undertaken at the University of Wisconsin (1985), followed by fellowship training in Pediatric Urology at Children’s Hospital Boston, Harvard Medical School. Dr. Joseph arrived at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Children’s of Alabama in 1986 as Chief of Pediatric Urology; he achieved tenure in 1991 and became Professor of Surgery in 1996; he transitioned to Professor of Urology in 2012 and Vice-Chair of Academic Affairs within the Department of Urology in 2016. He became board certified in Urology in 1987 and was recertified  in 1995 and 2005; he received subspecialty certification in Pediatric Urology in 2008 and was recertified in Pediatric Urology in 2015. Dr. Joseph was appointed the Beverly P. Head Endowed Chair in Pediatric Urology in 2010 at Children’s of Alabama. He served on the Executive Committee of the Society for Pediatric Urology, having been Past President of the SPU in 2004. Dr. Joseph currently serves on the Executive Committee of the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Urology as immediate Past Chair 2018-2019. He is a previous member of the Editorial Committee for the Pediatric Section of the Journal of Urology from 2000-2004 and was prior Assistant Editor of Journal of Urology from 2008 to 2012. Dr. Joseph recently completed a long tenure with the Spina Bifida Association as a member of the Board of Directors. He was appointed to the AUA/ABU Exam Committee in 2000, having served as a member, consultant, and chair. Dr. Joseph is currently a member of the Urology RRC and Trustee and President of the American Board of Urology.
