George M Humphrey II Professor of Neurology, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine; Director, Comprehensive Stroke Center, University Hospitals–Case Medical Center, Cleveland, OhioCathy Sila MD, is the George M Humphrey II Professor of Neurology at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio and the Director of the Comprehensive Stroke Center at University Hospitals- Case Medical Center. She developed the UH Systems Stroke Program to integrate stroke care across a 10 hospital system, standardize clinical practice and quality initiatives and guide the strategic use of resources. Dr Sila is a fellow of the American Heart/Stroke Association and the American Academy of Neurology and serves on the Executive Committees for the Stroke Council and the Vascular Neurology section of those organizations.
With more than 20 years of clinical experience delivering care in a multidisciplinary neurological institute model, participated in more than 75 clinical trials of stroke treatment and prevention as a clinical investigator, including 16 trials related to carotid atherosclerosis, and in research administration and clinical event adjudication for more than 40 clinical trials. Since 1993, she has directed core lab services for neurology for the Cleveland Clinic Cardiovascular Research Center. She has co-authored many societal guideline statements and provided expert content for AHCPR, CCQE and CMS MEDCAC. From 2009-2011, Dr Sila served on the NINDS Common Data Elements Initiative and was the neurology liaison to the FDA Standardized Data Collection for Cardiovascular Trials Working Group. Since forming in 2009, Dr Sila has served on the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission Board of Directors, developing and implementing accreditation standards for carotid stenting facilities.
Dr Sila received her medical degree from the Case Western Reserve School of Medicine. She trained in Internal Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic and in Neurology at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota. She completed a Cerebrovascular Research fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic and is board-certified in Neurology and Vascular Neurology. Dr Sila has received training through the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University and was a Hedwig van Ameringen Fellow in Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine Program at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
