Cara Mack, MD, joined the Medical College of Wisconsin (WI) and Children’s WI in 2022 as Professor of Pediatrics and Division Chief for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition. Prior to this, Cara was faculty at University of Colorado (CO), Children’s Hospital CO (2002-2022) and had many leadership roles, including Director of her basic/ translational sciences laboratory, Director of the T32-funded Pediatric GI Fellowship Training Program, and Medical Director of the Pediatric Liver Center.

She completed her undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology at the University of WI-Madison, pediatric residency and chief residency at University of Chicago and Pediatric GI, Hepatology & Nutrition fellowship at Northwestern University, Lurie Children’s Hospital.

Cara’s research focuses on the contribution of adaptive and innate immune responses to bile duct injury and fibrosis in biliary atresia. Her research has been funded by the NIH and private foundations.

Cara has published more than 100 original articles, review articles and book chapters related to pediatric liver diseases. At the national level, she has chaired numerous committees within the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease and has given ~50 national/ international invited speaker presentations.
