Bethany Howlett earned her BA in Biology from Johns Hopkins University and an MHS from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. While working in the field of emergency relief and humanitarian assistance, she planned and implemented healthcare programs in South Sudan, Jordan, West Bank, and Syria. Themes of health equity, resilience, primary care, and advocacy led her to return to the US and complete a medical degree at the Medical College of Virginia so that she might provide direct patient care and health professional training while working to center the voices of socially vulnerable and historically marginalized communities. She completed her residency training at Aurora Family Medicine Residency Program in Milwaukee, WI and joined the faculty at UW-Madison in 2015. Her professional interests include full scope family medicine with maternity care, vulnerability and innovation in medicine, and health equity.
