Chaitman, M.D is Professor of Medicine, Director of Cardiovascular Research and Director of the Core ECG/MI Classification Laboratory at Saint Louis University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Chaitman’s previous appointments include Chief of the Division of Cardiology at Saint Louis University School of Medicine (1989-2000), and Director of the Exercise and Nuclear Cardiology Laboratories at the Montreal Heart Institute and St. Louis University Hospital
Dr. Chaitman is a graduate of McGill University and received his internal medicine training at McGill University Teaching Hospitals and cardiovascular training at University of Oregon Health Sciences Center and at the Montreal Heart Institute. His research interests include clinical event committee classification, drug development, rest and exercise electrocardiography, exercise physiology and training, non-invasive cardiac risk stratification, and treatment strategies for coronary artery disease. Dr. Chaitman is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, American Board of Cardiovascular Diseases, Certification Board of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography and National Board of Echocardiography (2001-2011).
Dr. Chaitman is and has been involved in a number of National Institutes of Health (NIH) related and other research activities, including NIH Clinical Trial Review Committee, VA Cardiovascular Merit Review Board, Chairman of safety and data monitoring boards, Chairman of event classification committees for large scale multicenter clinical trials, and member of the executive and operation committees for large multicenter, multinational clinical trials sponsored by NIH and the pharmaceutical industry. He is an Ad Hoc Committee Member for the FDA Working Group on standardization of clinical trial definitions. Dr Chaitman is Chair of the ECG subsection for the Task Force of the Universal Myocardial Infarction Definition Group. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Clinical Council of the American Heart Association and served as president of the St. Louis Greater Division of the American Heart Association from 1998-2000. Dr. Chaitman is a member of the editorial boards of most major prominent cardiology journals that include Circulation, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, American Journal of Cardiology and European Heart Journal. He has published more than 390 manuscripts for scientific journals in addition to 358 abstracts, 42 book chapters, and 32 reviews.
