Dr. Kaffenberger is a clinically and translationally oriented medical dermatologist who is interested in cutaneous graft-versus-host disease, sclerotic skin disease, psoriasis, and hospital consultative dermatology. He is currently the director of the dermatology inpatient consultation service at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in addition to being the dermatologist for the multidisciplinary GVHD clinic at the OSU Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Comprehensive Cancer Center. He serves as a coinvestigator on multiple industry sponsored clinical trials. During his residency, he was funded to study a retroviral link to psoriasis vulgaris which has revealed evidence of human endogeneous retrovirus K dUTPase protein within plaques of psoriasis. He is interested in studying the early diagnosis of GVHD and differentiation from masquerading conditions as well as skin-directed treatments in both acute and chronic GVHD.
